As many of my subscribers know, I love history and I especially love English history, Churches, Cathedrals, places of medieval historic importance, and so that brings us to the Druid Stones in North Yorkshire near Masham.

Unveiling the Mysteries of North Yorkshire: Exploring the Druid Stones near Masham and staying in the Forest in my Citroen Campervan.

Nestled amidst the lush greenery of North Yorkshire, near the charming town of Masham, lies a hidden gem that whispers tales of ancient mysteries and natural wonders—the Druid Stones. These weathered monoliths stand silently, shrouded in a cloak of history, inviting curious souls to uncover their secrets and bask in their enigmatic presence.

As I embarked on my journey to the Druid Stones, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation tinged with a hint of reverence. Located just a short distance from Masham, the stones are easily accessible yet carry an aura of intrigue that transcends time itself.

Upon arrival, I found myself standing before a small cluster of imposing stones, their weather-beaten surfaces bearing witness to centuries of existence. Unlike the towering monuments of Stonehenge, the Druid Stones exude a more modest yet equally captivating charm. It's as if they hold a quieter wisdom, waiting patiently for those who seek to unravel their mysteries.

One of the most striking aspects of the Druid Stones is their natural setting. Surrounded by rolling hills and verdant meadows, they seem to harmonize effortlessly with the landscape, as if they were always meant to be there. This seamless integration only adds to their allure, drawing visitors into a realm where the boundaries between nature and history blur.

As I wandered among the stones, I couldn't help but marvel at their sheer presence. Some stood tall and proud, while others leaned slightly, as if bowing to the passage of time. Each one bore its own unique markings, etched by wind, rain, and the hands of countless generations. It was a humbling reminder of the enduring power of nature and the fleeting nature of human existence.

While the origins of the Druid Stones remain shrouded in mystery, local folklore offers its own interpretations.

Some believe that they were erected by ancient Celtic tribes for religious or ceremonial purposes, while others attribute more mystical significance to their presence. Whatever the truth may be, there's no denying the profound sense of history that permeates the air around them.

But the appeal of the Druid Stones extends beyond their historical significance. For many visitors, myself included, they offer a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Whether you're seeking a quiet spot for reflection or simply yearning to reconnect with nature, the stones provide a sanctuary where time seems to stand still.

There were in fact built by a local, who paid the local villagers 1 shilling a day to build a structure similar to stone henge, it's not as grand as that historic location but interesting nether the less. He also paid for a hermit to live in a cave structure for 7 years, with a stipulation that he must not speak to anyone or shave or cut his hair. It was fashionable for the time period for rich people to have hermits in their folly's, it elevated their status as successful. It lack ed atmosphere for me being only 200 years old, but worth a visit.
