Kettlewell Camping

Updated: Jul 30

As many of you know I strive and yurn to be away from the City, I work in Leeds centre and have to commute twice a day to sit in an office alone and make other people rich, that's the gist of it. So when the weekend comes around I can't wait to away from the grim and stench of the filthy streets and breath clean fresh air in the country side, it is my escape.

I wish other people would support my journey on Youtube, bit by bit I am losing the will to carry on. It takes so much effort to make these video that it is becoming taxing and mentally crushing. Why do I keep trying so hard to get a break and make it? I have no idea.

Which brings me on to staying on a campsite in the van, why would you? surrounded ny lots of people, the constant clinging and banging of metal cups and pots, people sneezing, shouting, kids running everywhere, annoying, I know they are enjoying the countryside and I am all for it 100% but it is not usually where I would head in the van,

As I sit here looking out of the window I am pleasantly surprised, having come back from a quite tough hike and scramble the joy of hitting a hot shower in a cubicle that was clean and smelt great was quite alluring. Usually on a weekend bash stop out I don't wash, if face I don't either change my clothes, no I do not smell like a tramps arsehole. that's van life. The thought of having one of these van showers with freezing water.. nar mate Ill pass.

I initially parked out at Kettlewell Camping and had an ok first night, there was tents quite close and I felt conscious that they would hear the diesel heater and it become an issue, it was quite cold in the van.

The next day some bloke in a mega expensive supped up Range rover with top tent box and outside tent parked right next to me, like literally 6ft in a half empty field. I decided to move to other side fo the field to any empty part hoping he would not follow me. So heater on tonight.. oh yes.

Staying at a campsite with like minded people brings a sense of security and safety, many of the campervan were t6's and some nice tents to boot, there were a certain class of people, not the sort of chavs you get swilling lager in England tops being loud and playing music, no, real out doors peeps.

The ability to have a fire pit on the site is probably the best part of it for me, wind, fire, water, all fundamentals to human nature and all captivating to the soul. Speak of which the campsite is literally next to the graveyard of St.Marys, a beautiful small church with an 11 century naïve, by touching it you feel the English history coursing through your veins, I love it.

Kettlewell Camping is in a great location, it couldn't be any closer to the centre of the village, with the Yorkshire Dales Way walks basically at the start of the campsite meaning a lot of possibilities to walk to Arncliffe, head towards Great wharfedale or head back to lower sutton.

There are 3 pubs in the village, a ice cream parlour, a village stores shop, all in a beautiful stone brick façade, the whole village looks innkeeping with history and no modern horrid shop fronts anywhere.

There is an old car garage in the center that looks like it has not changed in 50 years it looks great.

For the sake of £15 a night for a van, £10 for hook up, hot showers, a wash room, communal freezer and kitchen, situated in beautiful surroundings in the valley, I can whole heartedly recommend staying at Kettlewell camping either in a tent or in a van.
